Common questions
Do I need an AI account?
No account is needed to capture, edit or search your notes. On compatible iPhones, AI features use Apple Intelligence when it is enabled and its model is available. An optional external provider may require its own account and API key, and may charge you separately.
Why are AI titles paused?
Apple Intelligence may be disabled, unavailable on your device or still downloading its system model. You can keep taking notes. If you choose an external provider in Settings, check the endpoint, model and key, and separately allow Jot to send note content to that provider.
Where are my notes?
Jot saves notes on your iPhone. It does not operate a note-sync server. You can export Markdown to a folder you choose; that folder may sync through iCloud Drive or another storage provider. You can enable automatic updates to your chosen folder. To stop them, open Settings and choose Stop sending to this folder under Send to your computer. Files already exported remain in that folder until you delete them separately. Your device-backup settings may also include app data.
How do I stop sending notes to an AI provider?
Open Settings in Jot and choose Stop sending notes under the selected provider, or switch to Apple on-device. This stops future requests. It cannot recall data already sent; contact that provider for its retention and deletion options.
How do I remove my data?
Delete notes in Jot to remove local copies. Exports, backups and content already sent to another service must be deleted separately from that service. Jot has no account to delete. Remove an optional API key in Settings if you no longer want to use it.
Why is dictation unavailable?
Dictation needs on-device speech recognition for your language. If it is unavailable, you can keep typing notes.
How do I use Siri and widgets?
In Jot Settings, open Siri, Action button and widgets for setup instructions. Siri shortcuts register with the app. You choose the widgets and controls to add, and assign your Action button in iOS Settings.
